Business & Entrepreneurship

Very well developed and one of my best assets

Level of Development During My Bachelor

Past

I began my bachelor's studies having a great interest in Business and Entrepreneurship. This was much fuelled by my early experiences in this field when starting Kilojoule Network together with friends in 2017; a community of creative visionaries. While I was just starting to learn the basic concepts of creating an impactful and meaningful business, I saw the opportunity to further develop my theoretical knowledge about corporate structures, business models, value propositions, and marketing strategies during my studies. As a result, developing my competence in Business & Entrepreneurship has been an important focal point during the past years. I enrolled in multiple Design Entrepreneurship courses, and I applied my newly learned skills in (design) projects whenever possible. For example, I followed the elective Introduction to Business Design in my first year and constructed a business canvas for project 1. While I had found interest in learning how to structure and manage a business enterprise, I created a real passion for marketing strategies and found great joy in creating value propositions and unique selling points during my design projects. As a result, I devoted my USE learning line to understanding the constructs of effective and valuable marketing strategies in combination with design, and followed the USE learning trajectory of New Product Development and Marketing. This has given me a particularly detailed understanding of the elements of a marketing mix, and I am capable of applying this knowledge to my advantage in design projects. Overall, my competence in Business and Entrepreneurship has seen great improvements over the last year and I tend to further develop my skills in marketing strategies during my master’s.

Present

As I devoted much energy to developing my competence in Business and Entrepreneurship during my bachelor’s studies, this has been the least integrated area during my FBP. Nevertheless, I incorporated my knowledge whenever possible and I paid attention to implementing value propositions during the presentation of WoolWorks. Instead of presenting an explanatory video for the Demoday, I create a commercial video that has a high entertainment value and sketches a unique selling point. As a result, I believe this has contributed to the credibility of WoolWorks as a ‘real’ (future) product. I do think this is extremely important when presenting a rather speculative idea or design as this could potentially enhance discussions.
